Freesias, ranunculus, and a pair of 1930s Wedgwood vases: arranged in readiness for dinner with friends on Saturday night; photographed as part of Lou's inspiring Nature in the Home series.
There is something in the air. My little T has been waking at an ungodly hour - 5.30am all this week. We are well-versed in the ways of the early riser, thanks to 18 months' practise with A, but I naively thought those days were behind us. Perhaps it's a blip. I hope so. It's only Wednesday and I'm broken!
A bit of nature (outside the home, this time) always helps when one needs geeing up. I'm off out into the garden with a new pair of secateurs, ready to tackle the rose-pruning, window box-planting, and long overdue tidying. With it should come some peace. Do you find gardening meditative?

Oh delicious I can them from here. Yes gardening is good for the soul!!! Poor you, T stop exhausting your mummy! It's a blip,, change of season. He will be back to normal in a few days xx
ReplyDeleteOoh, I hope so! 6.05 this morning. Slight improvement...
DeleteI really love that image. Beautiful. It is so lovely to get out in the garden again. My husband is the gardener in our family- I am more about picking flowers than pruning them. Can't wait til the weather is warm enough to sit out in my Lloyd loom chair and knit! x
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the loveliest way to enjoy the garden. Feels improbable/impossible it will ever be that warm again, but I know it won't be long. Come on Spring!
DeleteThe flowers are gorgeous but oh oh oh those vases! My heart is full of love for them... Gardening is definately good for the soul - I love a good garden clear...project simplify outside! Early waking is a nightmare - blackout blinds? I can not wait for Finn to turn teenager and learn the joys of sleeping in. It will probably happen when I get too old to be able to sleep. Ho hum.
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, aren't they? My husband found them.
DeleteYeah, people keep saying that they'll sleep in when teenagers and we won't want them to. I'm sure I won't mind that much!
We moved into our first house WITH a garden in early Nov, (we had pots on a balcony in our previous home, but you couldn't really call that gardening!). I am keener than ever for warmer days so I can get out there and get my fingers muddy. I can imagine gardening being quite therapeutic and weeding incredibly satisfying. I managed a couple of hours out there one Saturday a few weeks back, but the cold got the better of me and it wasn't long before I was back in doors warming my hands round a cup of tea. :)
ReplyDeleteLove those Freesias btw!
That's so exciting! It WILL get warmer and we WILL get to go in the garden. If we say it enough times it'll come true, I'm sure.
DeleteThose vases are beautiful - I love ranunculus too, but can never find them near me. An afternoon in the garden is so good, it's like therapy! Time to think, be active, sort, tidy, renew. I think I'll be doing some of that this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI can commiserate with the broken sleep too - my little one generally only wakes once, at around 5.30, but is cutting big teeth at the moment so is waking multiple times in the night again...zzz.... Hope T's blip passes soon!x
You too, I'm useless without sleep :( x
DeleteI'm so glad to have stumbled across your blog! You family is so sweet. I'm looking forward to reading more.

DeleteBeautiful flowers, and a great combination!
ReplyDeleteGosh being a Mummy is hard isnt it?! I hope you get some rest soon,
Georgie x
Thank you Georgie, me too! x
DeleteThat is a beautiful photo. The pink and white are striking against the dark background.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think gardening is good for the soul. I always feel much better after a bit of pruning and pottering. I hope the early starts improve. x
love that Lou featured these! So so beautiful. The colours are rich & deep with beautiful contrasts between light & dark. Hang in there with the sleep. We have three & every time I think about one more (wishing for a girl) I think of all the years of lack of sleep. Makes me appreciate sleep in so many ways. your blog is lovely! xo
